လက်ရှိမြန်မာ့နိုင်ငံရေးအပြောင်းအလဲတွင် သိသာထင်ရှားသောဝိသေသတစ်ရပ်မှာ တိုင်း ဒေသကြီးနှင့်ပြည်နယ်လွှတ်တော်များတွင် အခက်အခဲအချို့ရှိနေစေကာမူ တိုးတက်လာသည့် အခြေအနေဖြစ်သည်။ တိုင်းဒေသကြီးနှင့်ပြည်နယ်လွှတ်တော်အသီးသီး၏ ဥက္ကဋ္ဌများသည် တိုင်း/ ပြည်နယ်လွှတ်တော်ဥပဒေပြုရေး၊ လွှတ်တော်အစည်းအဝေးကျင်းပရေး စသည်တို့တွင် အရေးပါသော အခန်းကဏ္ဍမှ ကြီးမှူးဆောင်ရွက်သည်။ တိုင်းဒေသကြီး/ပြည်နယ်လွှတ်တော်ဥက္ကဋ္ဌ နေရာ (၁၄) ဦးအနက် (၁၂) နေရာကို ၂၀၁၅ အထွေထွေရွေးကောက်ပွဲတွင် အနိုင်ရပါတီဖြစ်သော အမျိုးသား ဒီမိုကရေစီအဖွဲ့ချုပ်ပါတီက ရရှိသည်။ လွှတ်တော်ဥက္ကဋ္ဌ (၁၄) ဦးတွင် အမျိုးသမီးအနေဖြင့် မွန်ပြည်နယ်လွှတ်တော်ဥက္ကဋ္ဌတစ်ဦးသာ ပါဝင်သည်။
One of the remarkable features in Myanmar recent reforms is the development of regional parliaments despite constraints. Since state and region hluttaw speakers shall supervise hluttaw sessions, they are of crucial role in regional legislature. The National League for Democracy, the winning party in 2015 general election, holds 12 out of 14 speaker posts. Among 14 speakers, the speaker from Mon State Hluttaw is the only female.
